Friday - Discovery Science Center

Friday we were looking for something fun to do. My friend I grew up with, Kelly, is the PR/Marketing person for the Discovery Science Center and she hooked us up with free tickets for the day.
The day that we went they were opening up a new exhibit about rockets! Tyler and Jake were excited, especially Tyler. He's been into space stuff lately.

I found Kelly while she was working and she showed us around and even snuck us into the exhibit before it was open to the public. While we were there a photographer from the OC Register took some pictures of our family and we made the OC Register website (not the actual paper though).

Those boys were so excited about every little thing that we hardly stood still for a second. We let Jake walk around too. He was pulling me one direction and Tyler was dragging Ryan another.

I had fun catching up with my friend as we experienced air and water rockets, simulated blast-off, earthquake simulators, grossology, driving a zamboni, hockey "games", clouds, tornados, and tinkertoys.

Thursday - Newport 56th Street

Thursday was supposed to be the warmest day at the beach. It was supposed to reach 80. Of course, the day we had set aside to go to the beach Jake decided to wake up super early and take an early nap so we had to head out the door by 9am. We were at the beach by 10 am and it was still incredibly overcast and chilly.

The cold didn't stop these boys! We started off digging in the sand a little while. We made some fun sand castles and dug a big hole.
there was a tractor making paths at the beach and the boys loved watching it work.
The sand only sufficed for so long, then the boys wanted to play in the waves. Surprisingly Jacob loved being in the water! He got so sad when we took him out...once his lips were completely blue.
running from the waves!

Wednesday - Hanging around the house

Tyler turned into a little fish while we were at Grandma and Grandpa Denos' house. Somehow Grandpa taught Tyler to swim! It must have been the goggles ;)

Tuesday - Ruby's with Great-Grandma and Grandma

Tuesday we took it easy at home to catch up on naps and relax a little. Naps worked out just right to meet up with Great-Grandma Anita and Grandma Denos for lunch at Ruby's.
Whenever we go to California we have to have a Ruby's shake at least once. Our boys love the shakes too :) and it's always nice to catch up with Great-Grandma and give her an excuse to get out (she's still recovering from a little surgery). Grandma even walked over from work on her lunch break to hang out with these cute boys.

Monday - Orange County Zoo & Irvine Railroad

We got started on our vacation Saturday after Ryan got off work. We made record time! Got to California in just under 4 hours (and we didn't even speed...too much). We went straight to Popa's house in Anahiem Hills for a family dinner that night.

We got to see almost all of the family on Ryan's side. We saw The Yorba Linda Dunns, the Lake Forest Dunns, Ryan, Sarah and Alexis, and Granny and Grandpa were even in town!

We hung out Sunday too and then Monday we all got together at Irvine Regional Park to go to the zoo and ride the train.
The zoo was pretty small, but the kids liked to "ooh" and "ahh" over the animals. I'm pretty sure that Tyler's favorite part was feeding the goats. He was so funny, he would make sure that he didn't feed the same goat twice so he could share with all of them.

Jacob, on the other hand, started crying when we got close to them. So strange since he is usually my little animal lover. He enjoyed the rest of the zoo, looking around at big animals.

After the zoo we walked over to the train station, got some tickets and got on board. Sarah and Alexis, Ryan, the boys and I all got to ride the train. It was fun. The train conductors loved their job and wore overalls and conductor hats too. Jacob ended up on daddy's lap and was a little scared so he was holding on tight and cuddling in tight. It was a rare occasion and Ryan loved it!
It was so fun to be all together again. We loved seeing Granny and Grandpa for a few days and Tyler is excited to fly and see them in November.
Such a great beginning to a wonderful vacation!

A Great visit with cousins from Kansas!

The Friday before we left for vacation we got to visit with my cousin Heidi, Robbie and their kids, Lizzy, Austin, and Regan.

We just got together at Heather's house and played for the day.

Of course it was lovely Las Vegas hot around here so the kids just enjoyed the watermelon, crackers, and time in the water!

We were also there to watch the kids because Heather has had to start doing fetal monitoring 2 extra times each week. That makes 3 appointments per week! We have been taking one day and Heather's got some great friends that take the kids a few times per week as well. We are hoping for sweet baby Jason to come meet us someday soon!
