Tyler's first work of art
This is from several months ago, but this was the first real "something" that Tyler drew all by himself. In case you can't tell, it's a happy face with eyes, a mouth, arms, legs, and hair. He was so proud of himself that it is still on the fridge to this day.

a long awaited announcement
Some of you know, most of you don't. Ryan and I like to make things complicated in our lives.
We like to pair life events so that we don't get to adjust to just one major change at a time. For example, Ryan gets his associates degree, we have a baby. We buy a home, we have a baby. Ryan changes jobs, we have a baby.
In case you missed it, we're having another little Crooks.
I haven't said anything yet because I am still in complete denial and probably will be until at least Christmas. We are getting excited but this little one was definitely a surprise to us. I just had my second appointment and finally got to see my own Dr. We have also held off because of some uncertainty surrounding this little one. I was told that a third pregnancy would be high risk the entire time and we would have to deliver about 3 weeks early. Well, I was put at ease a little bit yesterday but we still have some big decisions ahead.
Surprise or no, we're getting ready to add a little someone to our ever-growing family. Estimated due date is March 2, 2011 but with my delivery conditions we'll probably meet this baby around mid-February. We'll be updating in about 3 weeks with a who and what this little baby will be :) Stay tuned!

Long days!
Some days as a parent I get to do awesome things, other days are like the last two...reality hits.
Yesterday, both boys were stinkers...all...day...long.
Today started out at 5:30am (like usual) after having a Tyler bug in my bed most of the night.
We were eating breakfast by 6:30 and sweet Jake had a dislocated elbow by 6:50am.
Rough morning. Poor Jake was so stinkin sad and the worst part is that it was completely my fault. I was just getting Jake out of the high chair and his leg got stuck, like it often does, so I just pulled up a little different but there was a "pop" and he started fussing almost immediately.
Well, I started making phone calls to my visiting teacher whose husband is a chiropractor who helped me out. Left a message. Called my neighbor on her day off...no answer. Called the Dr. office non-emergency advice line and left a message. Poor Jake is still crying. We got some advil in Jake and I got to take off his pajamas to figure out what I could by looking at him.
Little guy just laid still while crying which led me to know something was hurting bad enough because my boys never sit still. Tyler was so cute saying to Jake, "buddy, your arm go pop? Dr. make it all better. It's okay"
We finally get in touch with the Dr just before 8am and were told that I'd have to take him to the ER because he's so young (and blow all my savings- again). I guess our pediatrician over heard the conversation on their end because he called my cell phone just to get the whole story and see if he could help. He totally gets brownie points for being such a kind man this morning and saving me time and money. He told us to come on down and he would take care of it.
Well, we went to the wrong office first but made it there and got Jake's elbow taken care of. Then, to make everyone feel better we spent the day playing with our cousins since we ended up on that side of town anyway.
Fun day with a hectic start. I was in my pajamas until 7pm and Jake didn't have any shoes or shirt for the day but we're no worse for the wear.

Tyler's First Day of Preschool
I can't believe I just wrote those words! My Tyler is only 3 years old, but we are lucky enough to have a friend in the ward who teaches preschool out of her home and she needed someone to watch her little two year old while she taught...and now, here we are,
Tyler's First Day of Preschool
He had me guessing- but today he pulled it all together and went in one confident little boy. He loved wearing his new "big boy clothes" and I think the icing on the cake was getting a new backpack.

Jake was a little sad to see his big brother go, thankfully having Michael over to play helped ease the pain. The two little boys are almost exactly a year apart and they were hilarious together.
Sooo proud of Tyler! He definitely grew up in those few hours. I think I missed him more than he missed me :)

August trip to Utah: Provo Temple
We drove up to Utah in August for Kyle and Brinly's wedding. I believe it was the 11th that we drove up. The boys woke up insanely early as usual so we hit the road early, stopped in Cedar City at the coolest McDonalds ever for breakfast, and got to town before anyone else.
What else do you do when trying to entertain tired boys? Take them to a temple of course! We took the boys here last September too when we visited Utah...and Ryan got his appendix out. Thankfully, we had no emergency surgery this time around!
The boys loved the flowers, the trees, the blue sky, and the fountains at the temple. It was awesome to be all together as a family for a whole day.

Future CarMax Employees in the Making
Ryan is loving his new job at CarMax. The boys and I are dealing with it and missing him a ton! He is gone from 6am until about 7pm most days. Tyler and Jake went on a bunch of shopping trips with us when Ryan got the job to get work-appropriate clothes. CarMax is pretty specific about what colors/styles you can wear. Shorts can't have cargo pockets and can't be too long. While Ryan's back-ordered shirts were coming in he had to wear solid polos without any logos.
Well, the boys obviously picked up on this because one day after swimming as we were getting them dressed, Tyler insisted on wearing his "carmax shirt". I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. After 5-10 minutes of guessing we figured out Tyler meant his solid-blue polo shirt! Not only that, but he also picked out his only pair of shorts without cargo pockets to complete the ensemble! Then Tyler insisted that Jacob wear his "carmax shirt" too.
Although they may hide it well sometimes, these boys sure do love their daddy!
Of course the only pictures I snapped were after dinner so both boys are a mess! But here is Tyler- even sporting one of daddy's name tags.
